Michael Singer’s book is a fantastic practice in seeing the stories of others as a movement ground for self-transformation. The premise of the book is really a self-reflection of Michael’s movement through life while following the practices of surrender. This is not a book of buddhist techniques or fancy tutorials of how to be more zen or peaceful. This is a book of a very simple practice, surrendering to the flow of the universe.
So how is, surrendering to the flow of the universe a simple practice? It first starts with being a friend of your mind. It starts with being able to understand and intuit what is happening in your conscious, and taking the personal power back to send messages to your subconscious.
There’s also a statistic that says we have over 20 thousand thoughts a day, and some citing upward of 70 thousand. With this being the case, how clear are we being about mastering the control of these thoughts?
Singer’s book certainly doesn’t dive into the root of how, but instead tackles it from a different direction. Let yourself feel the flow of the thoughts and when you can hear the little voice in your head starting to add it’s commentary; take a pause and then understand whether your thought is serving the universe. Take the pause and then surrender to what is happening despite what your brain might be saying to you.
You can see this very experience manifest throughout Singer’s journey of self-transformation and awakening. By following the simple advice he gives, you can also let life lead you. It may not appear and give the same results to what Michael has manifested, but you can darn well bet that you will be able to access the amazing abundance that is the universe.
In my own life, it has been a recent practice to be able to ask myself consistently whether any given moment is one to practice surrender. So far, I’ve found the results to be very illuminating. You can use the same approach to help un-package your thoughts and re-package them in a way that serves your highest self, and highest calling. I’ve been able to notice specific choices that happen, and in the moment fully surrender myself to what is being revealed, and manifested around me. The experiences have then been the highest and fullest expression of my inner life.
