Philip Chen

Began his yoga career teaching seniors at a prominent Palo Alto social resource center and homeless shelter. He uses a wide range of fun and simple yet powerful stretching, strength training, breathing, and meditation exercises to help students step into a more fluid version of themselves. 

As graduate of Avalon Yoga’s 26th Teacher Training class in 2016, Philip is representative of many other talented instructors that Avalon’s Teacher Training Program has turned out for many years. For group classes he's most recently taught an early afternoon Saturday mindful flow class at Avalon, but in recent months shifted fully to private coaching engagements.

Philip brings in teachings from several lineages of yogis, healers, psychics, and business coaches including Healing Cultures and Life Insights

Safety & security

We use our bodies daily. Each person is in their own unique place in their body and it's important that we don't jeopardize daily function. It's critical that we can maintain a safe space and remain secure in our practice without fear of injury of emotional trauma. 


EXCELLENCE

We aren't made into warriors over night, but we do have a lifetime to get there. Excellence is the art of continuing to show up and giving our all toward living a more fruitful, calm, and purpose-driven life. 

Communication

Communication is not the message that is sent. Communication is the message that is received. It also happens to be a two-way street and requires two or more to tango. The most beautiful and direct words have no meaning if the client receives and understands them differently. It's a personal mission of mine to co-create a sense of connection and build clarity in communication.

Yoga is supposed to be fun! Movement is supposed to be fun! If we're here at our matts and aren't able to bring a smile or laugh we're probably doing it wrong. I'm here to create the space for you to flourish and leave feeling refreshed, enthused, and excited by your body, mind, and future. 

About our process.

DIRECT COMMUNICATION

There's no secret magic here. Like all other reputable coaching practices we start with getting to know each other. There's no hidden agenda and no consultation fee. If it's a fit great and if not, it's all good.

We begin by discussion your goals. Are you looking to get stronger, be more flexible, or improve your balance? Would you like to work towards more complicated poses or learn more about yoga history? Let's figure out what you want to accomplish and begin to craft a plan together. 

WEEKLY CHECK-INS

A weekly check-in doesn't need to be complicated. We're either doing a session or sending a quick message to each other to check in.

Your check-ins can be as mathematical or systematic as you'd like. Depending on your goals, we'll be tracking your feelings and hard numbers. 

ACCELERATE GROWTH

Once we've got the basics down and worked out the logistical details, we'll be 100% focused on executing your plan and helping you achieve your goals.
