Hi Folks,
Here’s to my first newsletter which follows James Clear’s 3-2-1 approach. I’d like to thank my dear friend Caroline (who in turn got this from a mutual acquaintance, Kris) for suggesting this format.
3-2-1: When you spot the strangest looking bird outside your window at 8 am
Three ideas from me:
1) Life can be like the seasons… until you realize there are two hemispheres and that not everyone is going through the same season-to-season transition that you are (thanks, Simone in Australia).
This month here in Mexico, I’ve been encouraging myself to work with the change in seasons from winter to spring. For the next 15 days, I’ll be focusing on the energies of rebirth, determination, and intention. I’m thinking about the various seeds (metaphorically, and perhaps physically ~ hello my now dead succulent named Harold ~) that I’m excited to imagine tending to and growing for the next few months.
Each day, I am keeping an eye out for anything that tickles a sense of creativity or love in my soul. It could be the simplest of flowers or an odd crack in the wall. Through this, I flow intention into re-tention (what gets mirrored back to me by my surroundings).
2) Each element (water, fire, earth, wind… and space) has its practical uses.
The elements of water and wind have been top of mind for me in these first 2 months of the year. Practically, water as a means of quenching thirst, purifying the cells in my body, and (with soap) cleaning away the dirt! Metaphorically, water as an energetic flow with its unique texture, consistency, and strength. If I were to imagine water as a personality, it’s flexible with its torrential movement and also calm with peaceful intentions. Wind, when paired with water, creates the basis of movement for ships (or Relate-tion-SHIPs).
3) See the person right in front of you with deep trust, without judgment, and without your own insecurities getting in the way of giving space, and receiving their presence.
Two quotes I’ve been pondering:
A) “How am I complicit in creating the conditions I say I don’t want?” Jerry Colonna, Reboot.
B) βIt is not about win or lose, it is about do you accept the challenge.” Matthew McConaughey, Greenlights
One question for you:
Think about a loved one, friend, family member, or a person with which you have a connection.
What’s something triggering about them that you can imagine is a superpower in the eyes of someone else?
Until next month,
Philip
If you’d ever like to reconnect live (as opposed to texting or audios) you can always pick a time that works for you and find time with me here via calendly (don’t get thrown off by what will seem like a professional context, I’m using the same calendar π ).
