With 2019 coming to a close, I felt it important to do the work of asking, and setting intention for 2020.
- What are three areas I should be paying attention to in January?
- What are three areas that I should be sowing the seeds for in January?
- What are three areas that I should foster and grow?
It was Jim Rohn that introduced the concept that “Life is like the seasons” to me several years back, and it has resonated with me ever since. Metaphorically, the concept is that spring is when we plant the seeds, and begin the journey of renewal. We need to take care of what we’re sowing, paying attention to the soil and climate.
Summer is when we keep an eagle eye on what we’ve sown. We need to guard like a mother, ensuring that all of the hard work we’ve purposefully designed, continues to thrive. It is during the summer that we can fall prey to the pursuits of comfort and forget what we’ve planted.
Fall is when we’ve made it past the hardest part, and can begin to reap the crops.
Winter is when we stay in comfort, and live until we begin in the spring again.
The seasons are metaphorical and do not necessarily align with what we think of as our calendar year. A teacher of mine once asked me “What part of the year do you find the most fast paced” as a means to determine when energy was at the highest. Mine usually comes in a December, but for my friend James it happens in April.
For 2020, specifically January, the theme of “Allow” is what manifested. Justine Serebrin shares that Allow is made up of flow, receptivity, surrender, vulnerability, strength, and expectation. She writes “vulnerability is power at its core; do not consider that it is weakness in any way. To be open to others and the universe takes mastery. Allowing the road to rise up and meet you on your journey is the goal… when you understand the empowering aspect of your position, the changes needed become clear”.
I’ll be focusing on fostering a mindset of “allowing” in January and begin to sow that for the remainder of the year. What would you like to be seeing, feeling, and thinking during this coming year ?
