I was walking along Rothschild Blvd on a Thursday evening when out of the corner of my eye I saw a body rise to the sky.
This was acro yoga. A form or style of partner yoga where someone is a base, and the other, a flyer.
I’ve only done it once, at the Wanderlust festival in San Francisco which was full of high-flying hippie monsters ready to get up to dance and feel the magic. But from what I’ve been looking at and researching, acro-yoga isn’t as much of a yoga practice in the traditional sense where you work out, meditate, or relax into postures. Acro-yoga is an amazing form of trust. Trust in yourself and the balance you bring, but more importantly, trust in your partner and the coordination between you two. Acro-yoga is a place of grounding yourself, but also maintaining the connection with your partner.
It reminds me of dancing. With dance, you lead, and follow, but that place between your hands, and the place between your bodies becomes an area of movement. Of sensing. And, at the end of the day, of Love. Love for the dance, love for the experience, love for your partner, and love to create something that hasn’t yet been before.
We talk about approaching life, and what to do when we approach life. Life is an art, and success ultimately lies in the mindset behind the approach. Are we pushing, pulling, or even just “being present”?
Trust is very much a mental exercise, and visualization. However, trust is also in the body. In the connection between the soles of your feet, your right & left big toes, across all of your toes, and the earth. That good ol’ earth that touches back at you and builds the foundation to yourself and source. Trust is in the body. Trust in the heart. Trust is in the place where your fingers clasp the strong palm of someone else.
